Costumes for Cheap and Easy

Halloween costumes can be expensive, and most of the time if you have store bought costume, you won’t be the only Pirate in the room. So here are a few original, cheap, and homemade costumes for kids, guys, and gals.

Kids

Bag of Jelly Beans

This bag of jelly beans costume must be the sweetest one of the bunch!

What you need to do: Get a clear trash bag, cut holes for your arms and legs to fit through. Print the nutritional facts on the back of the costume, just like what you see on the backs of candy bags. Fill up the bag with colored balloons for the jellybeans, and tie up the trash bag near your neck with a ribbon.

Jellyfish

Be careful not to get too close to anyone this Halloween.

What you need to do: Get a clear umbrella. You can use all kinds of materials as the stingers, such as thin strips of bubble wrap, string, ribbons, or fabric. Then you’ll just need a white shirt and maybe gold leggings and you’re ready to dive into that punch bowl.

Ladies

Audrey Hepburn

You can’t go wrong with Audrey Hepburn’s character in the classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

What you need to do: Get a little black dress, black gloves, a cigarette holder, a tiny tiara, a pearl necklace, and black heels. Don’t foget to give your eyes and lips a little love with bold eye liner a light coral lipstick.

Guys

Lego

Let everyone live up their childhood with this throwback costume.

What you’ll need to do: Just paint a box and cut holes for your head and arms, then glue the cups to the front. Paint the entire thing one uniform color. Write “LEGO” on the cups if you really want your friends to get it without thinking.

Magritte’s famous “Son of Man” painting

You may not know the name of the painting, but I’m sure if you’ve seen The Son of Man by Belgian painter René Magritte.

What you need to do: You need a black suit, a red tie, borrow a bowler hat from that guy you hang out with even though he owns a bowler hat, and tie a fake plastic apple to the brim (a real apple is too heavy and won’t hang properly).
